EP7001 Cow Block Adhesive Data Sheet

EP 7001 COW BLOCK ADHESIVE EP 7001 Cow Block Adhesive is a 2 component urethane adhesive, especially designed for bonding orthopedic blocks (wood or rubber) on the bovine hoof. Why use EP 7001 Cow Block Adhesive - Perfect adhesion on several materials - Very fast drying time between 30 and 45 seconds, depending on the application temperature - Odorless product - Easy open cartridge How to use EP 7001 Cow Block Adhesive - Open the vacuum bag and remove the cartridge - Remove the cap and break the security cap with light pressure, in order to allow the two components to extrude from the tube. - Position the cartridge into the dispense gun - Fix the mixer tip onto the cartridge by rotating it onto the bayonet fitting - Keep the cartridge in a vertical position (mixer tip upwards) and begin to slowly extrude the product in order that the air bubbles inside the cartridge can get out (you will see the air bubbles rising up the mixer tip). - Extrude a few CM of product in order not to have an unbalanced mix there must be no air bubbles this also applies to the mixer tip. - Extrude the product onto the block. - Fix the block onto the cow by applying light pressure for approximately 10-15 seconds. Be careful of not having any product leak from the side. - After 1-3 minutes from the application (depending on the application temperature) it will now support the weight of the cow. - Trim, clean, level and mark the hoof where you are planning to apply the block. - The hoof must be perfectly clean. - If possible use denaturized alcohol for the hoof cleaning. - Wait until the hoof is perfectly dry and degreased before making the application. - If possible warm up the block or the hoof by using a hot air gun. - Extrude a strip of product in the middle of the block for all its length. Keep the product at least 1cm thick and 2cm wide for the length of the block. - As soon as you have extruded the product on the block, lightly press it on the hoof minimum 10 – 15 seconds. Do not press too much on the block. You have to avoid leakage of the product from the side. Hoof Preparation

- You can speed up the reaction by heating the bond. - After 1 – 3 minutes after the application (depending on the application temperature) it can now support the weight of the cow.

Notes

The chemical reaction begins with the mixing of the two components and is very susceptible to temperature variations :-

- HIGH TEMPRETURE = FAST SETTING - LOW TEMPRETURE = SLOWER SETTING

Whenever you use the product at a lower temperature than 20 degrees you will need to warm up the blocks and the hoof with a warm air gun and to warm the cartridges in hot water for a few minutes.

CORRECT PROCEDURE

POSITION THE CARTRIDGE INTO THE DISPENSER GUN AND REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE CAP AND YOU WILL SEE THE SECURITY CAP.

BREAK OFF THE SECURITY CAP WITH LIGHT PRESSURE, IN ORDER TO OPEN THE TWO ORIFECES FOR THE MATERIAL TO FLOW

FIX THE MIXER TIP ON THE CARTRIDGE

KEEP THE CARTRIDGE IN A VERTICAL POSITION AND BEGIN TO EXTRUDE THE PRODUCT. YOU WILL SEE SOME AIR BUBBLES RISING IN THE MIXER. CONTINUE THIS OPERATION UNTIL ALL THE AIR IS GONE FROM THE MIXER.

EXTRUDE A FEW CM OF PRODUCT IN ORDER NOT USE AN UNBALANCED MIX DUE TO AIR BUBBLES

PUT THE PRODUCT ON THE BLOCK

BY MAKING A LINE OF PRODUCT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOCK. THE LINE SHOULD BE 1CM THICK AND 2CM WIDE.

MAKE SURE THE HOOF IS WELL CLEANED AND PREPARED IN ORDER TO ASSURE A PERFECT ADHESION

FIX THE BLOCK ON THE CLOG BY MAKING A VERY LIGHT PRESSURE ON THE BLOCK FOR 10 – 15 SECONDS. THE PRODUCT THICKNESS BETWEEN THE HOOF AND THE BLOCK SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF 5MM.

ALLOW THE PRODUCT TO DRY FOR AT LEAST 1 MINUTE DEPENDING ON THE APPLICATION TEMPRETURE.

AFTER 2 MINUTES IT CAN SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE ANIMAL.

MOST COMMON MISTAKES

ONCE THE CATRIDGE IS OPENED BEGIN EXTRUDING WITH THE MIXER TIP FACING DOWNWARDS WITHOUT ALLOWING THE AIR BUBBLES TO GET OUT OF THE CARTRIDGE.

EXTRUDING THE PRODUCT AWAY FROM THE CENTRE AND IN A THIN LINE.

PRESSING TO HARD ON THE BLOCK ALLOWING PRODUCT TO LEAK FROM THE SIDE.
