EP3001 Equine Hoof Adhesive

EP3001 Equine Hoof Adhesive Guide

EP 3001 Adhesive EP3 001 Adhesive is a fast reaction adhesive used for hoof wall reparation and hoof bonding using aluminium, steel or urethane shoes. GENERAL INFORMATION • For best results, products should be used with temperatures between 18°-29°C (65°-85° F). For further information please refer to section Hot & Cold Temperatures. • It is recommended to use disposable gloves during application. • This product must not be overexposed to fire. • Only ADL mixers should be used. CARTRIDGE PROCEDURE STEP 1: To open the cartridge, remove the tip with pincers and insert cartridge into dispensing pistol, label facing up. STEP 2: To ensure that both side of the cartridge will dispense evenly, prior to attaching the mixing tips equalize the cartridge by pressing on it to let a small amount of the product come out STEP 3: Attach the mixing tips by pressing and twisting clockwise. STEP 4: When completed, leave the mixing tips on as they will serve as a lid, ensuring the cartridge to remain perfectly sealed. STEP 5: For further application, redo step 2 and attach a new mixing tip. SHOE PROCEDURE To ensure stability and a correct placement of the shoe, we recommend using clips. STEP 1: Install clips STEP 2: Drill a 0.8 cm whole between the second and third nail holes of both branches, countersink on the ground side. For a stronger grip, drill additional holes. STEP 3: Scrape the top of the shoes to get rid of any oxidation and roughen the surface. To remove oil, grease, slag or dirt, clean with Denatured Alcohol (DO NOT use 70% isopropyl). STEP 4: In order to maintain 0.4-0.5 cm space for EP 3001 Adhesive , take 3-4 or pieces of wooden matchstick and place them around the web of the shoe. Note: To prevent that EP 3001 Adhesive will lock the heels, apply Duct Tape to the last 2.4 cm of the branches. HOOF PROCEDURE STEP 1: Trim, scrape and level hoof as usual. If there is any frail or soft material at the white line area, remove it immediately. STEP 2: Dry hoof carefully using a heat gun or a hair dryer. Be careful not to overheat. Note: If the body is oily, wipe the area of interest with a cloth dampened with Denatured Alcohol, while not saturating the hoof. Afterwards, dry thoroughly. Acetone MUST NOT be used. BONDING SHOE PROCEDURE STEP 1: Apply EP 3001 Adhesive onto the shoe more or less at 1cm thick and width of the shoe STEP 2: Positioned the shoe rapidly and correctly. It will take approximately 1 minute for the reaction of EP 3001 Adhesive to be completed. STEP 3: Maintain the hoof elevated while keeping the shoe immobile for 3 ½ minutes until EP 3001 Adhesive is partially cured.

Suggestion: Wrap the hoof and shoe with pallet wrap after 1 minute and set down for a while. Later, you can easily remove the wrap from the hoof.

HOT TEMPERATURE Above 29°C (Above 85°F)

• Hot temperature will shorten too much the curing time of EP3 001 Adhesive . To retard the curing time, store the material in an insulated refrigerator with 1 or 2 freezer packs. COLD TEMPERATURE Below 18°C (Below 65°F) • Hooves, shoes and EP3 001 Adhesive products that are kept at cold temperatures will have a curing time much longer than if they were kept at moderately warm temperature. • Cartridges should be stored in insulated refrigerator heated with microwaveable heat pads or 1-2 tightly capped 4 liters jug filled with hot water. • When the product is kept at temperatures from 0°C or less, one must keep the shoe warm otherwise condensation will form on them preventing the bonding reaction.

HOOF WALL REPARATION USING 3001 ADHESIVE

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Do not cover wet, bleeding or infectious areas. Only when healed can you starts using the product. • EP3 001 Adhesive can be applied with the shoe on or off, but it will bond to the shoe. To prevent this to happen, apply a coat of oil or petroleum jelly onto the top of the shoe. Be very careful not to apply any on the hoof reparation area. • EP3 001 Adhesive results are not guaranteed even after using Denatured alcohol on hooves that have been heavily treated or saturated with products containing: oils, grease, pine tar, ect. • When dealing with a large application where heat transfer is a concern (above 65°C), restrict the first layer to only 0.6cm. Only after the initial cure (2-3 minutes), apply to the desired level and shape as needed. • It is recommended to use disposable gloves during application. HOOF PROCEDURE Same as on the preceding Hoof Procedure section of this document. PROCESS STEP 1: Trim, scrape, balance and clean the hoof around the injured area. STEP 2: Clean out the injured area with a hoof knife or a rasp. STEP 3: Make an undercut on the hoof wall. Note: Keep horse in stable overnight with dry bedding if you expect wet conditions STEP 6: Apply EP3 001 Adhesive directly onto injured area, over-filling around the repair and onto sound hoof wall. DO NOT reduce the thickness of the material around the edges because it will delay the curing time and could lead to failure. To push the material into empty holes, use the plastic in which the cartridge came in originally. Leave in place until EP3 001 Adhesive has completed its reaction and then peel off. STEP 7: EP3 001 Adhesive has a working time of 30-45 seconds for moulding and shaping. STEP 8: It will take 7-8 minutes for the reaction to be completed. Afterwards, shape by trimming and scraping toward the hoof. STEP 9: Nail shoe on normally. Nails will go through without damaging the repair. STEP 10: For a cosmetic finish, fill any empty holes using EP3 001 Adhesive after scraping and shoeing. STEP 4: Use some hoof tape or damp gauze to protect the coronary band STEP 5: Follow the instructions to clean and dry thoroughly the pre-treated area.
